Post Office Counters - a Fujitsu/Geller co-operation

This installation was shortlisted in the final 3 in the European Retail Solutions Awards 2006 in the category 'Back Office Integration Award'.

Geller sometimes works with partners on large EPOS roll-outs. The Post Office® installation is an example of Geller working with an IT partner. Fujitsu Services is the contracted IT supplier for Post Office® branches.

The Post Office® wanted to create an additional revenue stream by selling retail products to existing customers whilst, at the same time, attracting new footfall into Post Office® branches.

Their business requirement was to provide a proven EPOS technology that was cost-effective and met all Post Office Ltd's business requirements, including reporting of sales and stock automatically each morning to head office. In addition, the Post Office® required head office control and information, but did not want the additional management overhead of running the administration and branch polling of a retail solution.

Fujitsu drew up the performance specification and researched the market to find a solution that met the Post Office's requirements and a system provider who was reliable, scalable and trusted in the industry.

Fujitsu selected Geller as their chosen system provider. Fujitsu partnered Geller in the project management phase and, currently, provide the Post Office® with on-going Service Management and first level support.

Geller supplied the hardware, software and carried out the on-site installations and training. Geller will continue to provide Fujitsu Services with second level support, on-site service and management of the Post Office® polling bureau.

Geller installed 200+ Model TS-700 PC-based EPOS terminals from Aberdeen to Truro within the Post Office®'s four-month timescale without missing a single deadline, including carrying out modifications to GellerTouch software to meet the Post Office®'s requirements (which included Welsh language receipts, end of day reporting, special data collection and shelf edge labelling).

The polling bureau uses SuperStock, which provides sales, stock level, re-order and new product information overnight and on a daily basis, to and from the terminals throughout the UK. The system sends requested reports to the Post Office's FTP site, so that replenishment stock can be despatched to the branches. The polling bureau system was up and running on time one month prior to the main rollout of the TS-700's.
